2014 Summer Box Office Success/Failure Predictions

Today I will be predicting what movies are going to succeed and flop this summer. (note: they are not in specific order. I will do top 10 best then I will do top 10 worst.)

1.  How To Train Your Dragon 2

The sequel to the box office smash hit a few years ago has to be on here. I mean, who doesn't like this movie? It is directed and written by Dean DeBlois and stars Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, and Kristen Wiig.

2. Godzilla

Who wouldn't see this movie? It's Godzilla! Godzilla is a classic movie that anyone would pay to see. It is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, CJ Adams, and Ken Watanabe.

3. X-Men: Days of Future Past

Despite the past two Wolverine movies being total failures, they still profited very well. In this edition of X-Men, Wolverine, Raven, Beast, and Xavier, and all of the other mutants go back to the past to save young Xavier and ultimately save mutants and humans. It is directed by Brian Singer and stars Jeniffer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult.

4. Transformers: Age of Extinction

As troubling as it is to put a Michael Bay movie on this list, it is what people pay for. The plot of this movie is dinosaurs, transformers, explosions, and women. It is directed by Michael Bay and stars Mark Wahlberg and Nicholas Peltz. Bleh.

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Speaking of crap, more Michael Bay. But it's Ninja Turtles and everyone wants to see the Ninja Turtles. It is directed by Jonathan Liebesman (produced by Michael Bay) and stars Megan Fox, William Fichtner, Alan Ritchson, and Noel Fisher.

6. 22 Jump Street

And the sequel to another box office hit is on this list. Basically, the guys of 21 Jump Street get moved across the street to 22 Jump Street making another sequel possible (because 21 Jump Street 2 just didn't sound right.) It is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and stars Channing Tatum, Dave Franco, and Jonah Hill.

7.Maleficent

Hey, it says Disney. Let's go see it. That's how this movie will succeed. It is directed by Robert Stromberg and stars Angelina Jolie, Juno Temple, and Elle Fanning.

8. Guardians of the Galaxy

Hey, it says Marvel. Let's go see it. That's how this movie will succeed. It is directed by James Gunn and stars Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, Vin Diesel, and Benicio Del Toro.

9. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Oh, if you didn't see, I just reviewed this movie. So all the details are right here: http://bit.ly/1iCgVmA

10. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Another sequel to a reboot. That always does really well. It is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Andy Serkis, Judy Greer, a bunch of monkeys, and a bunch of survivors that would take forever to list off

Top 10 Box Office Fails

These are movies that are not necessarily bad, but just do get enough dough. (Note: they are still not in a specific order.)

1. Legends of Oz: Dorothy Returns

Being released a little earlier than other movies, and the fact that it look plain out annoying, nobody will pay to see it. It is directed by Will Finn and stars Dan Aykroyd, James Belushi, Kelsey Grammer, and Lea Michele.

9. Million Dollar Arm

Yes, it may say Disney, but people want to see something exciting during the summer. This seems pretty boring. And the general audience wants to see stuff they've heard before, and "Based on a true Story" drags people away sometimes. It is directed by
Craig Gillespie and stars Jon Hamm, Pitobash, Suraj Sharma, and Madhur Mittal.

8. Blended

ugh. Adam Sandler. Now I feel a little wrong about this one since a lot of people like Adam Sandler, but hear me out. After a while people can get tired of the same old crap. This does not look like it is funny even for the people who like Adam Sandler. It is directed by Frank Coraci and stars Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Kevin Nealon.

7. Edge of Tomorrow

Another apocalypse movie. Doesn't have Will Smith? I'm liking it so far. What? it has Tom Cruise? Oh great. This looks boring. A movie about a guy who can die again and again. Geez, this looks fun. I am just crossing my fingers that it won't do well. It is directed by Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, and Noah Taylor.

6. Earth to Echo

Now don't get me wrong, this looks interesting. It just doesn't look like something the general audience would watch. One of my complaints is, the plot looks recycled. So I don't know. It stars Teo Halm, Astro, Reese Hartwig, and Ella Wahlestedt.

5. Planes: Fire and Rescue

Last year before Planes even came out, I saw this on IMDB. This is what I call Disney getting pretty cocky. Nobody liked the first one, including my 5 year old cousin. It is directed by Roberts Gannaway and stars Dane Cook, Julie Bowen, Ed Harris, and  Regina King.

4. Hercules

Dwayne Johnson as Hercules. 'Nuff said. Directed by Brett Ratner and stars Dwayne Johnson, John Hurt, Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes.

 3. Jupiter Ascending

Nobody has really heard of it. It really just appeared out of nowhere. And it looks like one of those movies where teenage girls go to see it just because Channing Tatum is in it. It is directed by  Andy Wachowski and stars  Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Sean Bean, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

2. Think Like a Man Too

A movie for 30 year old men without a love life. 'Nuff said. Directed by Tim Story and stars Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and La La Anthony

1. The Giver

Based on the book you were forced to read in Middle School. Directed by Phillip Noyce and stars Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd, Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, and  Brenton Thwaites.
